Gemstone and Materials
Sapphires and rubies are in the same family known as corundum and any colour gem within this group other than the red of ruby is classed as a sapphire. This particular sapphire is a pretty light olive green colour; a gorgeous option for anyone that would like a sapphire in a different colour way to the more traditional blues.
Pure corundum is colourless and sapphires get their hue from impurities within their crystal structures. In the case of a green sapphire the colour is from iron which is present within the gem.
The gemstone is 2.8mm round and has a faceted cut (similar to a traditional diamond cut)
The pendant itself is handmade in sterling silver and is suspended from an 18 inch belcher style link chain.
